AETC 2016 Summer Program

For parents of school-aged children on the spectrum, summer break can present a challenging time in finding functional yet fun programs for their children.  AETC’s Summer Program aims to fill this need in Middle Tennessee.  Combining elements of summer-day camps and typical Extended School Year (ESY) programs, the AETC Summer Program provides an opportunity for children with ASD to maintain their group/social skills throughout the summer, learn new skills, and have a great time all the while.  Staffed by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), children are assigned to a functionally matched peer at a ratio of 2 children to 1 adult.  A BCBA is present throughout the day to provide assistance and supervision.   Social skills, activities of daily living, academic skills, and leisure skills are incorporated into a themed schedule.  Themes for this year’s program include:

  1. “Let’s Dance!” Music and Dance week
  2. “We’re Going on a Space Mission”
  3. “You are the Chef” (Cooking week)
  4. “The Circus is in Town” (circus/carnival week)
  5. “All Things Construction: From Legos to Bulldozers”
  6. “Oh, the Places You Will See” (Travel week)
  7. “Amazing Animals”
  8. “Make-Believe: Princesses, Pirates, and More!” Dress up and play pretend week
